Seminar: “Party Affiliation and the question of partisanship in Brazil”

On August 13, resuming the Lecture Series IESP-2018, the seminar “Party Affiliation and the question of partisanship in Brazil” took place. With the mediation of Fabiano Santos (IESP), the event was attended by David Samuels (University of Minnesota) and Cesar Zucco Jr (Fundação Getúlio Vargas), who discussed the results of their research published in the book “Partisans, Antipartisans and Nonpartisans – Voting Behavior in Brazil “, as well as discussion and comments of Pedro Floriano Ribeiro (UFSCAR). Bringing together findings from an important research agenda, which combines surveys of decades and a series of experiments, the work identifies partisan (or anti-party) sympathy as a real and consequent phenomenon. With questions and public considerations, the debate reflected on the importance of parties in recent and contemporary Brazilian politics.
