Associate Professor at the Institute of Economics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IE/UERJ), Full Professor (retired) of the Faculty of Economics of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (FCE/UERJ) and Volunteer Professor at IESP/UERJ, where he coordinates the Economics and Politics Studies Group (GEEP). Researcher level 1-C of the CNPq, he was Chairman of the Brazilian Keynesian Association (AKB) in 2009-2013 and he is currently one of the editors of the Brazilian Keynesian Review and member of the editorial board of the Brazilian Journal of Political Economics and the European Journal of Economics and Economic Policies: Intervention. BA degree in Economics from UERJ (1984), Doctor in Economics from UNICAMP (1997), he hold his post-doctoral degree at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford (2000/01). His main areas of research include economic development, monetary and financial economics, macroeconomics and post-Keynesian theory. Professor de Paula is author of the book “Financial Liberalization and Economic Performance: Brazil at the Crossroads” (Routledge, 2011) and editor of the books “Monetary Union in South America: Lessons EMU” (Edward Elgar, 2003) and “Financial Liberalization and Economic Performance in Emerging Economies” (Palgrave MacMillan, 2008).
