Researcher returns from doctoral stage at University of Pretoria, South Africa

Murilo Gomes da Costa is a PhD student in Political Science at IESP/UERJ, supervised by Professor Maria Regina Soares de Lima. Between February and July 2020, he conducted field research at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Pretoria, South Africa, under the supervision of Professor Maxi Schoeman. Over these six months, the doctoral research funded by Capes Print Project “Foreign policy, regionalism and international cooperation” was an exceptional opportunity for extensive data collection and access to bibliography, interviews with South African professors and experts, as well as a progress in the structuring and writing of his PhD thesis’s chapters on South Africa. The experience in Pretoria, South Africa’s administrative capital, brought important advances in his research, both through cultural and interpersonal exchanges and by the access to documents and reports from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and the Department of Defence (DoD) in South Africa.
